Clinton, NY - Shirley A. (Laribee) Humann, age 69, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday, October 23, 2020, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Health Care in New Hartford.
Born in West Carthage, NY, on January 11, 1951, Shirley (Shirl) was the daughter of the late Earle A. and Dorothy (Jordan) Laribee. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Utica Free Academy (UFA). Shirley continued her education at MVCC and Utica College. On January 30, 1970, in Barneveld, NY, she married Daniel J. Humann. The couple shared in a union blessed with over fifty years of marriage that was filled with adventures, laughter and an unconditional love that knew no bounds. At one time, Mrs. Humann held a position with the United Health Care Insurance Company, in Utica, where she was an Account Representative. For many years, she also worked for American Greetings in Utica and New Hartford. Shirley willingly dedicated herself to her roles as wife, mother, sister, and friend; her own needs were secondary to the needs of others, she tended to her family with love, devotion and respect.
Surviving are her husband, Daniel J. Humann; two sons, Daniel T. Humann, of CO and Lucas J. Humann, of MA; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy A. and Thomas Lowell, of Utica; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony Laribee, of VA, John and Debbie Laribee, of IN, James and Lynn Laribee, of Deerfield, NY, Patrick Laribee, of VA, and Thomas and Denise Laribee, of Floyd, NY. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, her mother-in-law, Jane Humann, of New Hartford; her in-laws, Raymond and Jane Humann, of Sylvan Beach, NY and Jill and Ronald Polizzi, of Utica; and many special friends in and around the area.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes and due to the COVID-19 outbreak, there will be no public visitation or funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Online condolences are encouraged by the family to be left on the funeral home’s website. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., Utica, NY.
Please consider memorial contributions, in Shirley’s memory, to either the American Cancer Society, 110 Lomond Ct., Utica, NY 13502 or the Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13502.

Dan and family, Thoughts and prayers to you and your family in this time of need, so sorry for you loss . Time spent together must of been well cherished for the years together, no words can heal a hurt heart, but GOD needed her and she's smiling down at you. Shirley will always be in heart, mind and soul as long with all of us, GOD speed.

First let me begin by saying that Shirley was a very, very special person and words cannot express the sorrow I feel. Our friendship dates back to when we were fifteen and Shirley moved up the street from me--somehow we immediately connected and that connection remained strong throughout our entire life. Shirley was my closest and dearest friend, and if I ever considered someone a sister Shirley is my soul sister. Forty-four years of friendship that remained strong no matter where we were or what was going on in our lives we always managed to reconnect with one another .So many memories over the course of forty four years so in memory of this beautiful lady I would like to dedicate this poem written in her honor.
To Shirley

Her kindness could be felt like a ray of sunshine.
She said she wasn't religious, but her spirit was divine.
Her family, friends, and animals were all she ever needed.
Her advice-"pearls of wisdom" that most people heeded.
Her soul as gentle as a butterfly kiss.
Her smile-one that everyone will surely miss.
Her sense of humor was her natural high.
Now whenever I think of her all I can do is sigh.
For there are words to express the hole deep within my heart.
Even though death has taken her, our souls will never part.
Heaven now shines with her beautiful soul.
The angels will be singing and the bells will toll.
Her spirit now free to explore any path.
No longer a prisoner to this world's anger and wrath.
Her legacy was one of kindness and love.
The face of an angel smiling down from above.

RIP my sweet friend--Death may have taken you , but if I know you, you will somehow find a way to communicate.

We are so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. Although we lost contact over the years we will always remember Shirley as such a kind, caring, loving person. Shirley and Dan were wonderful friends to Larry and us in our time of need. Heaven has gained an angel.

So, I have to many memories to share. But some of my favorites are when I was working at Byrne Dairy many, many years ago. You would pick me up from working until 11:00 and not sure whose idea it was maybe both of us, we would look at each other and say one word, Wimps and that’s all that’s all that needed to be said. We would agree just for a few cold ones and most times it turned into a few too many. We would pretend to play pool and laugh the whole night. Boy we had some great times. You were always there to pick me up literally and figuratively.
Through the years we made a lot of memories with our families. I will cherish every one of them. I know we had what I called our quiet times, but I always knew you were there and we would pick up where we left off. I loved you through the sad, happy and quiet times, I hope you knew that.
I am kind of upset that we won’t be able to carry out our plan of growing old together. We were supposed to sit in our chairs, watch old movies, and crochet the world’s largest blanket. I always knew you wouldn’t judge me when I said “You should see the new yarn I got”. My secret yarn stash obsession was safe with you.
In the words of EE Cummings, I carry your heart with me, I carry it in my heart. Where ever I go my darling you go with me.
I am not sure what comes next but I hope we will meet again.
Love you Shirl my sister by chance my friend by choice.
