Obituary for Freddy

Sauquoit, NY- Alfredo “Freddy” Nistico of Sauquoit passed away, on April 6, 2023 at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born in Cropani, Italy, on September 9, 1942, a son of the late Vincenzo and Maria (Marchio) Nistico. Mr. Nistico came to the United States and the Utica area, along with his family, at the age of 12.

On January 31, 1965, in Cropani, Italy, at Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral he married the former Antonia Angela “Toni” Mancuso. The couple shared a union that was blessed with family and a strong dedicated love for each other for more than fifty-eight years.

At one time, Mr. Nistico held a position with Winkelman Construction Company, where he worked as a foreman. Later he ventured into his own business, Tony’s Pizzeria, in North Utica, which he owned and operated for many years. Lastly, Freddy worked alongside his wife at their business, Toni’s Alterations and Tailor Shop, in Washington Mills. A mason by trade, Mr. Nistico was a proud member of LIUNA Local 35.

Freddy enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories of “the old days” with smiles and laughter. He had a passion for his home and was an avid gardener; tending to his vegetable garden, figs, roses, lilies as well as picking mushrooms in the woods. His favorite date nights were with his wife enjoying the excitement of the casino.

Mr. Nistico is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate, Antonia “Toni”. He also leaves behind four daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Michael Bessette of Hinkley, NY, Carmela and Kevin Jones of Jacksonville, NC, Margherita and Ryan Lewis of New Hartford, NY and Daniela and Jesse Hoch of Roanoke, VA; Grandchildren, Courtney Bessette, Ryan Jones, Christian and Jane Jones, Joshua Clarkson, Sophia Hoch, and Dominic Hoch as well as two great-grandchildren, Nathan Amos, and Lilly Rose Bessette.

He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, including, Frank and Cynthia Nistico, a sister, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and a sister-in-law, Rita Mancuso of Cropani, Italy. Mr. Nistico was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

There will be no visitation per the family’s request. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Saturday afternoon, April 22, 2023, at 1:00, at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 3372 Oneida Street, Chadwicks, NY 13319. The family will receive visitors in church at the conclusion of services.
