Obituary for Armon J. Ricci Jr.

Whitesboro, NY – Armon J. Ricci Jr., 70, passed away, after a long illness, Friday, March 17, 2023, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing in Utica.

He was born in Utica, NY, January 2, 1953, a son of the late Armon J. Sr. and Florence “Babe” (Burton) Ricci. Armon graduated from Utica Free Academy (UFA). He began his career at his family’s Painting Company, and was a cross country trucker, working at various trucking companies throughout the area. Mr. Ricci retired from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) after 22 years of service.

In his younger years, Armon was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, riding motor cycles, baseball, and playing and coaching softball for many area teams.

He is survived by his companion, Karen M. Cassel of Whitesboro; two daughters, Lindsey Ricci and her fiancée, Frank Velardi of Frankfort, and Tiffany Curry and her companion, Richard Walker of Utica; grandchildren, Mikayla Powell, Takiem Johnson, Rocco Williams, Eva Velardi, Francesca Velardi, and RoseLynn Velardi; one great granddaughter, Miliana Johnson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Florence “Cookie” and Earl Plante of Utica, and Mary Beth Ricci and her companion, Renee; nieces and nephews, Colleen and Jim Volpe, Tara and Brian Walker, Jacki Cooney, Jason Franklin, and Dylan Williams; several great nieces, and great nephews, Taylor, James, Rachel, Armerae, Elijah, and Andrew; and several cousins and in-laws, Gordy Marschner, Sharon Williams, and Linda Kelley. He was predeceased by two children, Amber and Elijah Cassel; a sister, Karen Ricci, and his mother-in-law, Diana Marschner.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00-6:00 at the Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., (at the Matt Funeral Home). Armon’s funeral and celebration of life will commence on Thursday morning at 10:00 at Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, in New York Mills. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Whitestown.
Armon’s family wishes to extend their thanks to the nurses and staff of The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Utica, especially, Melissa, Jessica, and Dayana, for the care and compassion that was shown to him during his stay there.
