Utica, NY - Lucille R. “Lucy” (Lofaro) LaVine, 89, passed away, Saturday, March 11, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center of MVHS.
She was born in Utica, NY, April 15, 1933, a daughter of the late Rocco and Josephine (Sangiacomo) Lofaro. Lucille was raised and educated in local schools, where she graduated from T. R. Proctor High School in 1951. At one time, she had been wed to Arnold LaVine. Lucy held a position with Oneida National Bank and later worked at the Oneida Limited Company in Sherrill, NY, retiring in July of 1995, after many years of service. She was a devoted member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish in Utica, volunteering as Eucharistic minister, lector, greeter at 8:00 a.m. mass, altar server at funerals, office helper, and coordinator of the schedule for parishoners to serve meals at Hope House. She was chosen by the Rev. James Cesta to receive the Immaculata Medallion for the dedication and love of her parish.
Surviving are a daughter, Kim M. Bywater and her partner, Jack Pendrak of Utica; a son, Kevin M. LaVine and his husband, Dennis DeVanney of New Mexico; grandchildren, Katherine E. and her husband, Ryan Hawkins of Lee Center, and Caroline D. Bywater and her fiancée, Kristen Fitzgerald of New York Mills; two sisters, Theresa Suppa of Utica and Joann Trotta of Basin, MT; and also many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and in-laws, including Charles LaVine. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Michael Bello; and two brothers- in-law, Salvatore Suppa and Tony Trotta.
In keeping with Lucy’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated on Thursday morning, March 16, 2023, at 11:00, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, in Utica. The family will receive visitors, in church, at the conclusion of services. Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., Utica, NY.
