Obituary for Edith Bueno

Edith Bueno
Edith Bueno, 1928-2018, Sauquoit, NY

Mrs. Edith Bueno, age 89, of Sauquoit, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

She was born in Holguin, Cuba, on December 20, 1928, a daughter of the late Julian and Cuca (Arguelles) Azze. Edith was raised and educated in Cuba; she relocated along with her family to the U.S. in 1952. She was married in New York City to Nelson Bueno, who passed away in 1972.

As a young girl Edith shared her beautiful singing voice via radio broadcast with the people of Holguin.

After moving to the United States, she worked as a furrier in New York City’s garment district, creating and mending fur coats for the city’s fashionistas.

She retired from Miami-Dade County where she held a position as a crossing guard in Hialeah, Florida at St. John the Apostle School.

She was a vibrant woman throughout her life, a lover of song, dance, and the sweeter things. Never one to hold her tongue or betray her spirit, she lived her life as she wished it, without apology, until her last peaceful moments. Those that remember her fondly and whose life she touched would do well to follow her example and strive to live without fear of judgment, and with hearts, minds, and arms open, prepared to accept whatever may come.

Surviving are her beloved daughter, Edith Lilly Bueno of Sauquoit; 4 grandchildren, Daniel Cassady, Rebecca Whitener, Katia Castellanos, Alan Wray ; 2 great-grandchildren, Lola Whitener and Ariel Knight and a large extended family in both Cuba and the United States.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ariel Castellanos; a granddaughter, Lourdes Beck; two sisters, Angela Oliver, and Amelia Merchant; and a brother, Carlos Azze of Cuba.

In keeping with Edith’s wishes all services will be held privately at the convenience of the family, who requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association in Edith’s name. Arrangements have been entrusted to Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk Street.
