Obituary for Frank L. Amarosa

Frank L. Amarosa
Frank L. Amarosa, 1947-2017 Retired UFD
Utica, NY

Mr. Frank L. Amarosa, age 70, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born in Utica, January 23, 1947, a son of the late Louis C. and Antoinette (Bennett) Amarosa. Frank was raised and educated in Utica, where he graduated from Utica Free Academy (UFA) with the class of 1964. Mr. Amarosa honorably served his country with the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. On May 25, 1974, he married the former Susan M. Margott; the couple shared in a union blessed with over 43 years of marriage.
At one time, Frank owned and operated McGuirl’s Bar on Eagle Street in Utica. He later was appointed to the Utica Fire Department, where he held positions of Fire Fighter, Paramedic and Fire Marshal. Mr. Amarosa retired from the fire department in 1999 after over twenty years of loyal service. He was an active member of the American Legion, Post 1376 in New Hartford.
Frank enjoyed many summers in Otter Lake at the “camp” that he had visited since he was a child. He was a familiar face and friend to all of the local people. Frank loved the outdoors and was happiest when his family and friends joined him at “camp” where they would socialize, cook and just have a great time.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Susan; a daughter, Karen M. Amarosa and her companion, Jason Whitson and his son, Matthew Whitson, of whom Frank was very fond; Frank was proud and excited to be expecting his first grandchild; he leaves a son, Frank L. Amarosa, Jr., of Las Vegas; a sister, Roseanne Palczynski, of FL; and his nieces and nephews, Kevin and Theresa Palczynski, Christine and Phil Reveal, Tracy Margott, Richard Margott, Justin Yagey and Elizabeth Yagey. Also surviving are many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Richard Margott, Gerald Margott, Michael Margott, Mary and David Yagey and Joanne Margott. Frank also leaves his “Otter Lake Family”.
Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon from 4:00-7:00 at the Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., (at the Matt Funeral Home). Mr. Amarosa’s funeral and celebration of life will commence on Saturday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes on Genesee Street in Utica.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of St. Elizabeth Medical Centers ICU for the exceptional care and compassion that they shared with Frank and his family throughout his stay with them.
