Mrs. Dorothea (LaBella) Adrean
Utica, New York

Mrs. Dorothea (LaBella) Adrean, 84, of Utica, died on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at home where she was surrounded by beloved her family.
She was born in Utica, on July 09, 1930, a daughter of the late Fortunato “Fred” and Theresa “Tessie” (Zongrone) LaBella. Dorothea was raised and educated locally graduating from Utica Free Academy with the class of 1948. On September 16, 1950 she was united in marriage with Thomas L. Adrean; Mr. Adrean died February 17, 1998 after more than 47 years of marriage. Dorothea began her career in 1947 with Wolfe News Service a position she held until 1979 when she began working at the Municipal Housing Authority. She retired in 1996. A devout Catholic, Mrs. Adrean was a communicant of St. Agnes Church until its closing in 2009. She currently is a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. At one time her memberships included the Sons of Italy Lodge, the C.S.E.A., and the Genesee Senior Day Center.
She is survived by three sons: Louis V. Adrean of Cleveland Heights, OH, Thomas L. Adrean of Old Forge, and Charles J. Adrean of New Hartford; a brother: Vincent LaBella of Utica; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Carol & Renato Roefaro of Utica, Margaret & Joseph Damiano of Lake Worth, FL, and Maria & Leo Callari of Utica. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews including: Bridget E. Rubino of Utica, & Caroline J. & Shawn Hughes of Rome; great nieces, great nephews, several cousins including, Dr. Angela Marie Elefante, a sister-in-law: Suzanne Sbarra of New Hartford; and many special friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by an infant grand daughter: Katie Ellen Adrean; and her in-laws: Lorraine Rubino, Antoinette LaBella, Jack Cardone, Nicholas Sbarra, and Camille and Thomas Cavallo.
In keeping with Dorothea’s wishes there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Wednesday Afternoon, at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church. The family will receive visitors in church at the conclusion of services. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Adrean Funeral Service, Inc. 700 Rutger St. Corner of Mohawk St.
The long time and continuous care and guidance displayed by Dr. Fred Talarico, not only throughout the years but throughout Dorothea’s illness and last weeks are to be commended; his availability to assist her and her family in any way at any time, has eased the stress and taken the confusion out of the many difficult decisions that had to be made during her illness. The concern displayed by the nurses and aides of Hospice & Palliative Care was of much comfort to Dorothea’s family.
