Obituary for Gloria E. Dote (Muoio)

Gloria E. Dote (Muoio)
Gloria E. (Muoio) Dote
Utica, NY

Heaven gained an angel when Mrs. Gloria E. (Muoio) Dote, age 88, of Utica, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimers, on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Utica on May 8, 1928, a daughter of the late Atillio P. and Desdamona (Venetozzi) Muoio. Gloria was raised and educated in Utica, where she graduated from T. R. Proctor High School with the class of 1946 and continued her education at the Utica School of Commerce. On September 20, 1947 in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloria married Dominick L. “Dickie” Dote, a loving union of over sixty-seven years prior to Mr. Dote’s passing on March 31, 2015.
Mrs. Dote retired in December of 1992 after more than thirty years with Mohawk Valley Community College, where she worked in the registrar’s office.
Her home was the center of family unity; it was here she shared the love, tenderness, and unique sensitivity it took to be admired as a beautiful wife, mother, and grandmother. Gloria had a passion for cooking and everyone enjoyed her culinary delights, especially on Sundays, when they would stop by in hopes of sampling “the best meatballs in the world”. Among her special talents and interests, Gloria had a great love of the piano. She filled her home with beautiful music. She also loved getting together with her sorority girls from high school up until her illness.
Surviving are three beloved daughters and a son-in-law, Gloria J. and Keith Skermont, Rosemary D. Muench, and Debbie Blando, all of Utica; her grandchildren, Tracy Margott, Richard Margott and his companion, Ashley Brackett, Derek Muench and his companion Mary S. Wallace, Dr. Matthew Blando and his companion, Kira Grant-Diaz, Meredith Blando and her companion, Joseph Chevrette, Dominick J. Dote, Sabrina Testa, and Stephanie Testa; two step-grandchildren, Keith and Gina Skermont and Jason Skermont; five great-grandchildren, Makenna Margott, Max Blando, Vincent Blando, Alex Dote, and Hailey Dote; and a sister and brother-in-law, Harold and Clara Battelene of AZ. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased by her adored son, Dominick Dote, and two sisters, Elisa Battelene, and Elvira A. Falvo.
Visitation will be held on Monday morning from 8:30-9:30 at the Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk Street (at the Matt Funeral Home). Mrs. Dote’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Lori, Kelly, and Shirley for the loving compassionate care that they shared with Gloria; and the nurses and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for the care and support during Mrs. Dote’s final weeks.
In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions in Gloria’s memory to either Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413 or the Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter, 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, NY 13204. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
